Six Do It Yourself Landscaping Tips

Landscaping is done in order to improve the appearance of one's lawn or garden. Landscapers are usually called upon to perform this since they are deemed as the experts. The task of beautifying your garden is not solely reserved to the experts. You yourself can also perform landscaping. You may find it hard at first but there are a lot of information regarding do it yourself landscaping. All you have to do is read them and follow some of the tips.

1. Design. This is very important. Before you go moving pots and plants it would be best if you sketch out your design first. With a sketched design you will be able to foresee the future look of your garden after you moved almost everything. A design will also help you decide which plant to place where. Keeping a sketched design at hand will help you save time and energy.

2. Types of flowers. Decide on which type of flowers you prefer to plant. Remember that there are types that can last for a year or two while there are also types that depend on the season.

3. Focal Point. The focal point will serve as the center of attraction. Usually the focal point is located at the center and it can be a garden ornament or a type of flower or plant. So before you go planting everything you should decide which plant or ornament will serve as your focal point. Keep in mind that the focal point should be something that ties everything in the garden together.

4. Flower beds. For sure you will have flowers that have different sizes. Some may be tall while others may be short. You wouldn't want the tall flowers to overshadow the short ones or the short ones to become hidden. The best way to solve this is to layer them when you plant them on the flower bed. Make three rows and plant the tallest ones at the back and the short ones in front. By layering you will be ensured that all the flowers will be seen.

5. Foliage. Yes it is true that the grass will surely give a touch of green to your lawn. Who can imagine a garden without the grass? Well you shouldn't limit yourself to planting grass alone in order to provide some foliage; you can also plant shrubs and evergreens to give your garden a little more color and more life.

6. Maintenance. You would want your yard to look great all year round no matter what the season is and in order to achieve this you will have to do one thing and that is to maintain it. If your yard is hard to maintain then you might end up leaving it as it is because you find the job too much of a bother. So do not forget this before you do any landscaping. Keep everything simple, beautiful and of course easy to maintain. If you have a low-maintenance yard then you won't have to spend so much time cleaning, trimming and pruning it and you will still have enough time to do something else.
