Three Simple Steps To Gardening On A Budget

A lot of people don't get into gardening because they believe that aside from the activity being time-consuming, it can be quite expensive. However, you don't need to spend money at all when it comes to gardening.

Of course, there are some expenses when it comes to getting all the right tools. But other than that, you only need to rely on nature for the things that you need to grow your flower garden.

The best way to save money is to make sure that you are taking care of your garden and not paying someone else to do it for you. Here are some simple things that you can do that won't take up too much of your time or your money.

• Preparation – You can prepare the soil for your garden yourself. You just need to invest on a cheap garden fork and till the soil manually. It takes just a little more time and dedication but at least you will be saving money from buying or renting an expensive soil tiller.

You can even test if your soil is healthy by doing your own pH tests. You don't need to hire the services of an expert. At most, just get advice from someone who knows how to test soil. Otherwise, you can do it yourself by brining some soil to a local shop that can do it for you or to a cooperative that you know of. It's not free to have it done but it will only cost you a few bucks and for just a little more you can have your soil tested for other things.

• Reparation – Perhaps your soil isn't quite good enough to start or even maintain a garden. This doesn't mean that you can't have a garden. And it certainly does not mean that you need to buy expensive soil or another plot of land just to start a flower garden.

To repair your soil, you just need to use simple techniques to revive it. You can mulch your soil so that moisture is kept in and weeds are kept out of the soil. You can also dig up your soil with a spade or shovel so that you can turn it out from under. This technique will bring up healthier soil from underneath so that you can replace the top soil. It's highly recommended to mulch the soil in thick layers whatever you decide to do.

• Contain – Gardening with containers can be pretty expensive if that's the kind of gardening that you plan to do. However, you can make your own containers with old, big bottles or hard plastics.

Recycling containers that were used for other things is the best way to go. You need the containers because plants will actually do better in a good mix of soil in a container than on garden soil. What you want to do is mix the right amount and kind of soil in each container so that water and air can flow freely to provide the plant with the nutrients it needs.
