Six Tools You Need For Your Flower Garden
If you are going to start your own flower garden or plan to maintain your already existing one by yourself, it is important that you have all the right tools. When it comes to maintaining flowers, you need more than just the regular shovel.
A flower garden can become much healthier if the flowers in it are cared for properly and at all the right times. Here are some of the tools that you should buy if you don't have them already.
• Pruners – If you have ever worked with a garden or with flowers in the past, you will know that pruners are largely essential especially when you are cutting roses. The pruners are also very important for garden perennials such as shrubs and small trees.
These shrubs and small trees are plants that live for more than two years and it's only with pruners that you can maintain them so that these don't over bloom. Pruners are like clippers and these come in different sizes. These are also available in left-handed or right-handed variants depending on your preferences.
• Spade – A spade or a shovel is also needed for a garden since you will be doing a lot of digging. The shovel is for any major digging that you need to do and the spade is for when you want to dig in areas that are smaller and more specific.
There are two types of spades and shovels: wooden-shafted and metal-shafted. You are better off with a wooden one if you don't want to work with something too heavy but it's the stainless steel ones that are more common in stores these days.
• Garden Fork – This is a tool that is really important when you want to work on flower bed soil. It is really useful for separating those large clumps of soil that form after watering a flower bed. You can also use a garden fork to get rid of weeds and for clearing out areas in your garden that you have set out for vegetables.
• Rake – Much like you need a rake to get rid of dried leaves in your front yard, you also need one for your flower garden soil. A rake is really useful for getting rid of small pebbles that you don't want in the way of your flowers. Also, if you are planning to level some ground so that you can plant seeds, the rake will help you do an exceptional job.
• Watering hose – Spend a lot of time watering your garden? Make sure that you purchase a high quality hose that has brass fittings. These are the best kinds of hoses that you can find and these can last you a lifetime if you take care of them well.
• A water wand – Want to water new seeds without having to break the soil around the area? Then what you need is a watering wand. These wands are perfect because these allow you to water plants with a steady and soft stream or shower of water instead of a strong flow like that from a hose. Make sure that you find a wand with a brass valve so that you don't end up spending too much money replacing your water wand.
